On September 20, 2016, The Charlevoix Council for the Arts/Waterfront Art Fair received the Thirteenth Annual Margaret  Duerr Award from the Friends of the Charlevoix Library.  The award was given in recognition for their almost sixty years of community enrichment.

Every year the proceeds from the summer art fair are used to fund scholarships and programs for Charlevoix students and to support art in public places.  Their generous gifts to the Charlevoix Public Library have included a piano, the display system for the Community Room exhibit wall, the 1927 historic mural painting, and several pieces of original art.

Mary Beth McGraw, retired elementary school art teacher and current president of the Charlevoix Council for the Arts/Waterfront Art Fair, accepted the award on behalf of The Council.  She  discussed the vital role the Waterfront Art Fair has played in our community and highlighted a few pieces of art from the library’s collection.
